Ali Gilmore was the instigator of the forming of the band. Though her own music background is based in Jazz and Americana, Ali has always had a great appreciation for Celtic music and was a big fan of Ned Giblin’s band, Brehon Law.
Ali met them when she moved to Carlsbad, CA back in the spring of 2000, got to know and become friends with members of the band. It was only years later that she decided to grab a guitar herself and pick up where she left off on her own musical aspirations. Since then, she has written over 30 songs, recorded two CD’s of her original, Americana music and performed as far away as the Festa del Pesce in Positano, Italy. Ned and Brad lent their skills to the first (Boomerang) while Brad, Paul, Len and Justin added their talents to her latest, (Piece of Cake).
When Ned moved back to Ireland in the summer of 2012, it left a gaping hole for not only the band’s strong following, but for the members left behind as well. When Ali met Justin by chance at a local Irish music session in early 2015, the idea sparked. After all working together in the studio together it became pretty clear that this was a chance that shouldn’t be allowed to pass by, so she organized a casual session after the holidays to “test the waters” and shortly into it all were agreed there was something special there.
Because Ali was undergoing ongoing treatments for cancer at the time, she wasn’t up for committing to performing, but she knew what she could do. “I can put my skills to use to launch and promote the band, but it needs a name…” “That’s easy.” Paul quickly added. “We’re the bastard sons of Ned Giblin!” And that’s how it all started. Ali became the band manager, getting the word out, building social media, securing gigs and on occasion, she joins the band on stage for a song or two!
Besides being a band manager/singer/songwriter, Ali is also a 4 time, stage IV cancer survivor, an author (The C Card and Me), freelance photographer and world traveler. Learn more about Ali at: www.aligilmore.com.
